![]() Welcome to the Deputy Don D.A.R.E. Website. As many of you already know, D.A.R.E. is back for the 2011-12 school year. The D.A.R.E. Advisory Committee is currently working on funding for the 2012-13 school year. This is necessary because during these difficult economic times local government and school districts are needing to make difficult budget cuts. Your local El Paso County D.A.R.E. program is currently being taught at Watson, Janitell and Sproul Junior Highs. There are approximately 750 students currently being taught the program and approximately another thousand students who have the added safety, classroom instruction, and mentorship of a law enforcement officer in their school. Many of you are unware that "The Choking Game" curriculum is also being taught alongside of the D.A.R.E. program in all three of the Widefield Junior High schools. Given the recent death of a local 7th grader in El Paso County, it is extremely important that every student hear the message on how dangerous this game is. Gian-Luc Jordan was loved and touched many lives in our community and will be missed by many. Please visit the links on this page to visit his memorial and to learn more about the "Choking Game". There is also an extended menu on Bullying, since this behavior has been of concern for students, parents and school administrators. Bullying is not what it used to be many years ago. With the advancement of technology and the availability of cell phones and social betworks, it has become more of an issue than ever. Students and adults who bully may be breaking the law and could be arrested. Educating students on the consequences of bullying and how victims can protect themselves is a large part of the D.A.R.E. curriculum. I encourage my students who may be a victim of bullying to report the incidents to a trusted adult. Don't wait. There are lots of adults in your life that will help you, however it must be reported. If you are a witness or bystander to bullying. You also have the responsibility to REPORT. Failing to report may have consequences such as someone getting hurt, or possibly legal issues for failing to report a crime. Reporting bullying is not tattling...It's very plain and simple. It's the RIGHT thing to do! D.A.R.E. is a law enforcement program that works in partnership with students, schools, and parents. In addition, please view the "Supporters Page" on this site to see what companies have been supporting DARE. Please visit them and tell them "Thank You" for their support. We have to work together to keep our children safe, and like everything of value and importance it COST. Thank you for visiting, and please continue to support D.A.R.E. during the many fundraisers throughout the year! ![]()
