Welcome to the Deputy Don D.A.R.E. Website.
D.A.R.E. is back! Sort of, and for how long? That depends on a lot of things. This year we are back in the nine Widefield elementary schools. We now have community awareness and more support than ever before making this the BEST Substance Abuse / Student Mentoring program currently available. I personally would like to thank each student, parent, business and supporter for all that you have done to being back this valuable community program. Whether you purchased a "Starfish", donated monetarily or with time....it is appreciated. Appreciated not only by me, but also by my students. Not one day goes by where I do not hear a "Thank you" from one of my students. I simply make them aware that this program was returned not by me alone, but through the generous support of the community in a variety of ways. One of which being the D.A.R.E. Advisory Committee that was initially formed in November of 2008. This committee is made up of concerned parents, educators and students, and was extremely instrumental in returning this program back to the public schools. Again, thank you to each and everyone of you!
When many people think of D.A.R.E., they think of substance abuse education. After 20 years of dedicating my career to this program, I can without a doubt say that D.A.R.E. is so much more. The program consist of drug education, Bully prevention, Internet Safety, Personal Safety, Law classes, mentoring of students and positive relationship building between students and law enforcement officers. I know...because I have seen it working for over 20 years. Have doubts? Shadow me for just one day and see how the program impacts the youth and families in our community. You, like many others will see how invaluable this program has become.
Please join us in celebrating 20 years of D.A.R.E. by supporting the program at out local fundraisers and events. Yes, D.A.R.E. is back, but the D.A.R.E. Advisory Committee is just getting started when it comes to awareness and community support. Substance Abuse and our youth should be a concern to all of us. Not just the schools and law enforcement. This community parnership that D.A.R.E. has become will make El Paso County a better place to live for all of us!
New schools just being added for the 2009-10 school year will be updated on this site before October 20th, 2009. Many school photo galleries have been updated!!!
